Keilanys was born at 3 AM this morning.
Her mother wanted a home birth with a midwife because her best friend had one and recommended it. We, knowing how things are often done here, advised her against it, but she insisted and paid a lot of money for this service. She was having all the tests and CT's done of course in conjunction with her gynecologist and everything was okay. But for those of us that have studied and worked at these things, we have seen everything that can possibly go wrong in a birth... a lot. For all the talk and written about the too many cesarean births, know what, they are very necessary.
The baby was almost 9 pounds, tore her apart, and the midwives did not have the necessary instruments. They did not perform an episiotomy, which is a simple procedure where as soon as the baby's head is crowning a small amount of lidocaine is injected to the tissue surrounding the vaginal opening and a straight cut is made in order to prevent jagged tearing which can go in zig zag and all directions including tearing into the buttock and anal area. What were they thinking, that all births are simple? Obviously not prepared at all.
So now shes in the hospital, it seems there was another complication, not just the lack of the episiotomy They aren't telling Yadiel because they know he'll be angry. She had to be taken into surgery at 1pm today until almost 4!!! Puhleeze! An episiotomy tear can be sutured in, tops half hour! I'm sure she tore her uterus. The doctor only told Yadiel that they had to take a lot of sutures, I'm sure she told him not to tell Yadiel the truth, But eventually she will of course, he was desperate while she was in surgery. She's being admitted, so a uterus tear is pretty much a given or something else as well, and the uterus is highly vascularized so very prone to hemorrhage.
She got to breast feed the baby one time before going to the hospital, and Yadiel's mother stayed with the baby in the parking lot of the hospital in the hopes of Katiria being able to breast feed her again, but no way, and they cannot allow the baby into the hospital because she wasn't born there and is not sick. So thank God Eileen has Calebs frozen breast milk, don't know how much she has or if shes still breast feeding but so far that's what she's feeding on.
Shes lucky that a doctor was willing to take her, usually they won't touch something that someone else did and the patient ends up in Rio Piedras Centro Medico. Her gyn could not make it, but he did call her and talk to her.
Anyway, praying for her well being and speedy recovery so she can be home with her daughters. Some pics of Keilanys...
